Manager/Principal

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Identify design criteria plus plan and execute effective design focused on exceeding client expectations.
  • Provide direct client interface and spearhead plan processing at
  • public agencies.
  • Marketing, business development, lead finding and pursuit of new
  • work.
  • Admin and finance tasks such as invoicing, budget monitoring,
  • proposals, change orders, timecard approvals for the team and attendance at required meetings.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Develop schedules and supervise coordination of workflow of the
  • design team with Sr. Project Manager.
  • Supervise plan preparation, technical reports, cost estimates, and other client deliverables. Assure work/design is of high quality, cost-effective, incorporates Full Circle Thinking, and meets the agency
  • and client standards.
  • Supervise or provide direct contact with agencies, supervise plan processing for approval, work with agencies to resolve design problems and determine compliance with agency requirements.
  • Oversee coordination with all outside consultants (geotechnical, landscape, plumbing, architect, etc.) and internal departments (survey, mapping, water quality, etc.). Initiate “kick-off” meetings, as appropriate, for various project phases.
  • Conduct site investigations and other research for proposals, designs and marketing materials.
  • Oversee or make visits to site during construction to check for plan conformity, resolve construction discrepancies and respond to RFI’s.
  • Provide workload forecast to ensure the team is properly utilized.
  • Communicate the need for additional resources with Sr. Project Manager.
  • Conduct staff reviews and provide coaching/training.
  • Responsible for seeing that time is properly charged to the project and employee timecards are submitted in a timely manner.
  • Track project budgets, provide billing instructions, and change order requests when required.
  • Initiate, implement and promote new ideas and procedures incorporating Full Circle Thinking.
  • Represent FEI in meetings with clients and agencies.
  • Attend seminars and classes and submit written evaluations of
  • seminars and classes with one or two key changes you're going to use.
  • Regular attendance and punctuality.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • In coordination with Principal or Sr. Project Manager supervises 1-5 employees within the Engineering Team. Carries out supervisory responsibilities by the organization's policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include interviewing and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.

EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE & KNOWLEDGE

  • Any combination of a bachelor’s degree (B. S.) in Civil Engineering or equivalent discipline from a four-year college or university and civil engineering design experience totaling ten years; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • A minimum 3 years of experience as the central design figure for a team as well as experience mentoring and overseeing workflow of projects is required.
  • Successful candidates will have well-developed problem-solving, decision-making, communication and team-building skills and the ability to manage projects from start to finish. EIT certification is required.
  • PE license or ability to obtain the PE license within two years of hire/promotion is required.
  • Proficiency in AutoCAD and/or Civil 3D preferred.
